Music Notation Service
church music arrangements

Music notation is becoming more and more accessible by the day. This has a very positive impact on church music and formation of music teams and worship bands.

A note about copyright

Avid Music will provide an “outline” arrangement for the worship song or hymn you requested, on the basis that you are not expected to play and sing precisely as we have arranged: notes, keys, repeats, etc. Because of this, your live playing will come closest to being “copyrightable”.

Each circumstance can be very distinct, as to warrant further clarification: please get in touch to discuss and clarify this matter.

Arrangement files

We use Finale, Dorico and MuseScore regularly.

An MusicXML version of the file is provided for you. This can be imported for use on the notation software of your choice.

Making a request

i) Assumption and base line:

  • You request Avid Music to produce a music arrangement.

  • Music is arranged suitable for sight-reading.
  • Suitable for up to grade 6 level.
  • There are no prescribed fees: Please make a donation.
  • Note that you are free to use the arrangement anywhere; what is shared is further shared and so on, and your donation ought to reflect that.
  • You shall share with me any gains received (money, rights, property, souls, guitar picks, stained glass, organ pipes, violin mute, air miles, etc.) 😁

ii) Your “arrangement item”:

  • The title of the hymn or song for arrangement
  • Any existing written form if available: piano / organ, guitar chords, melody line.
  • Any existing video, or audio, version of the piece
  • Any helpful notes, e.g. you want a different key, or style, in contrast to the video (or audio) provided
  • The above materials can be attached in an email, or as links for download

iii) Your “arrangement wish list”:

Include the following where relevant in your email:

  • “Must have” instruments and voices used
  • Other instruments and voices that might be used (depending on who is available etc.)
  • Approximate playing standards
  • Key and tempo
  • Sequence and repeats (verses, chorus, bridge, instruments, link section etc.)

iv) Your “additional wish list” can consist of:

  • Midway key change
  • Additional or alternative instrumental lines (e.g. flute plays line “A” for verses 1 and 5, line “B” for other verses)
  • Notating your music (introduction, ending, etc.)
  • We expect you further adapt our arrangement for specific cases e.g., including a young or new musician.

In case you asked: why?

We offer this service for the greater good of church communities.

As in the introduction above, notation software, duplication technologies and sharing mechanisms have made the music business so much more a force for “humanity” than “money” (there is a rhyme there). To some extent, music arrangement is the “easy” part for us at Avid Music. While many people can do this type of arrangement, it is consistency and time availability that not everyone has, and can commit to.

Once created, shared. This applies to our existing arrangements, which we will share with you, with any further adaptations required. Equally, we will be at liberty to make use of the arrangement made for you for our use.
